Wildlife Weekend

Baby red-shouldered hawk had a bad day yesterday. Survived hopping the nest, falling in a storm drain, THEN  also survived (what we now know) to be an attack by another hawk species, the red-tailed hawk. He was badly injured so we took him to a wildlife rehab center. Yay us. 

This morning, we discovered his two siblings fledged (not sure if that's a real verb) while getting the newspaper. Unfortunately they were under attack by the same hawk. One was already dead but we were able to save the other one before any major injury. We took him to a new (and even better) wildlife rehab place as the other one from yesterday couldn't take him. We had fun looking around the facility and learning from an expert who had been doing this for 35 years. On the way home we spotted an Austin-themed cafe and ate lunch. Fun, interesting day.
