We ended up with 2 inches of snow yesterday, 2 INCHES! The snow was short lived, though. Sunny and much warmer today. A situation that made for a sad little girl who was quite distraught as to the fate of her beloved snowman. She gathered umpteen cups of ice today and attempted to cool down Mr. Frosty by placing them under his hat. HZ also attempted to prolong its icy life by supplying him with mom's umbrella to block the killer rays. I'm sure Frosty was grateful for the extra minutes.
Guest blogger R here - kids are down and weekend was so busy I volunteered to do the post so L could catch up on her Calculus. Plus gives me a chance to be a proud papa. First, on Saturday L had birthday party duty with H @ Chuck E. Cheese's. I couldn't take him. You see, several years ago, I took H to a party @ Chuck's and H was not so fond of the giant rodent. The party ended with me crawling up into the highest part of the playscape to fetch H. On that day, I made a promise to H that I would never take him to CEC again - and I am glad to keep that promise. Anyhow, times have changed and he had a great time at the Party. In the meantime, A and I hit the town - and her activity choices included : Japanese food (well, mac & cheese @ a japanese food place), going to a new 'jumpy place' (see previous posts), and practicing her bike riding at the track. Well, Saturday was her first 'solo sans training wheels' and she did great!
BTW, at this point she had ridden about a mile and I was running along side her for most of it - holding a camera and trying to keep her steady - that's why I am so winded - not because I'm so out of shape....I digress...Anyhow, A is very happy with the fact that Mommy and Daddy couldn't ride their bikes w/o training wheels at 5 years old.
Also, the previous week H got a note home from the school that made me proud. He is only in kindergarten and working on the 'eat so much candy they send you home' scheme. Unfortunately the nurse was far too seasoned for his ruse and he was back in class inside of 15-minutes.
Shaggy the cat must be present for bednight. It's just the way it works.
This toy has a special meaning because it was my grandfather's and grandmother's RV "pet" cat when they traveled. After one Christmas RV trip, my grandfather gave it to A. because she liked it so much. (Thanks Granddad!)
I thought he would chuckle to himself quietly until he fell asleep.
Now, THAT's funny, because I was oh. so. wrong.
Other than giving him a carte blanche to sugar, soda, and television privileges, I can't quite think of anything MORE STIMULATING I could of given the lad.

H. (or HZ as he calls himself because the Z stands for 'awesomeness'...and yes, he actually told us that.) busted out some break dance moves. This is a photo of his signature style. Cool, dude.
A.'s class had a 'teddy bear picnic' with moms and decorated cookies today. H. had special craft centers and snack table. One mom offered to take our picture and that was so nice! I always forget to do that!
Really, the story isn't that exciting. Yesterday I went to the store (with kids) to pick out the valentines for their classmates. Every mom out there had the exact same idea at the exact same time with the kids having the exact same indecisive behavior in choosing spongebob or spiderman while a younger sibling is grabing every bag of candy and stuffed-plushed items to throw in the cart...hoping no one will notice the extra loot. Fun times! ( : The end.
Here's a picture of R during the bike portion of his tri........I've been meaning to put it up forever. Also, I'm giving myself a 12 grace period on the whole 365 thing (ha!)....it's hard to do!! Also, no that is not R's princess balloon in the background. It was some other Dad's. And yes, that Dad got razzed for it big time according to R!
It seems like forever since we've seen the sun! The skies cleared around the time we needed to pick up H from school. I took the kids to the park for a bit until Dad got off work. Then, we got a little crazy.......wait for it.....we had breakfast for dinner. I know, it's wild, high times for the family. But I'm telling you, it's hard to beat migas and pancakes on a Friday night.
When your kid asks you for 'sharp' scissors and tape, sometimes it pays off to say 'yes'. This little activity of H's kept him busy for the entire time it took me to prep dinner. H. has been reading "The big book of bones" and wanted to make a life size skeleton of himself to scare Dad when he came home from work. He did it 100% himself and I thought he did a good job for a 6 year old! And yes, Dad was 'terrified' when he came home. ( ;
I've been taking the kids to the public library on Wednesday afternoons. I find that it's nice to switch out the books they have in their bedroom bookshelves on a weekly basis. Afterwords we usually hit Sonic 'happy hour' for slushes, but today it was so cold and rainy that I took them to the coffee shop next door to the library. LOVE that place. As you can see in the second picture, they have a small area with toys to keep the kids occupied while you wait. Sweet.
Two British ladies run the place and I was chatting with one of them about the building. She says the store is definitely haunted. It was built in 1904 and was originally a pharmacy downstairs with two rooms upstairs for a physician and a dentist. The owner told me that she swears she saw a lady in a green early-20th century dress run across the floor and told me the other owner heard children laughing early one morning when she was by herself. Creepy.
H and A. LOVE joke books and any 'funny' reading material. We ran across a Garfield book at the library last week that caught the eye of H. He kept asking me one day what "Las-sag-ghana" was. I didn't have a clue what he meant until he mentioned Garfield. He really wanted to try some so I made it today. Both kids seemed to like the 'cat food'.

An old photo from a few months ago......I love it when H reads to A.
A. slept from 3pm to midnight last night, had some crackers and juice, then went back to sleep until 7:30 this morning. She was fever free today and doing better overall. (:
